LISTING EXPIRED. Alexandria, VA: Shockingly, two teenagers have lost interest in their guinea pigs. The family is now forced to find homes for two four year old pigs. I hope they have better luck than the overflowing shelters and rescues! Guinea pigs are described as "cute."

GRRR Infuriating that people assume that pet ownership and care responsibilities should be placed onto their kids ! Kids cant keep their room clean and get bored with toys in a matter of days what makes you think they will stay the course with a live being ???? If you are getting a pet for your child fine but make sure that its you that takes on the overall care for that pet !

I completely agree with you. Everyone winds up a loser when placing responsibility for a vulnerable animal on someone who isn't guaranteed to step up. The animal gets rehomed, the parents are inconvenienced and annoyed, and the child may feel guilty. Sentient beings are neither a gift, nor a bargaining chip.

I'm worried about Christmas coming up.
