One of many reasons why I'm against br33ding (and why this blog does not support br33ding), is because if a roan pig is br3d with with a roan pig (or if a dal pig, another br33d, is br3d with a dal pig), there is a one in four chance a lethal pig will be born. Lethal pigs are very, very special needs, if they live more than a few days. Please don't ever br33d your pigs, as there is a high chance of fatality for the mother. But if you have a pig with white fur and some black spots (a dal pig), or the black markings intermittent in fur that constitute roaning, please, please don't br33d them. Your pig may create a blind, deaf pig with no teeth who relies on you for care. And with so many hundreds of homeless pigs, why br33d in the first place?

SC-South Carolina Guinea Pig Rescue-Bunch of boars!

South Carolina Guinea Pig Rescue; Columbia, SC: Adopted! Toby, Moose and Logan, Brooklyn and Memphis, and Riley!

This rescue has had to close its doors, but donations for Maddie's care are still accepted, as the former director is now caring for her out of her pocket. donation information is here

To dust out and brush off an old slogan, It's worth a drive to keep them alive! Not that these pigs are in danger, but that's the magic of adopting from rescues. Not only are you giving your adopted furries a home, but you create a space in the rescue for a shelter pig--which means you are saving a life.

That's why AAGP is folding out it's coroplast futon and getting out its guest fleece, and asking its Southern neighbors to come stay for a spell. And we're inviting you to fall in love with a little Southern Cavy Comfort.

Now, it's raining boars!

Adopted! Toby is ~2 years old, has tons of personality, and is one of those dominant males who would be best paired with a younger male, or even a baby boar. He is vocal for veggies, and such a sweetheart. This lonely boy needs a friend and a forever home!

Moose and Logan--woah! These guys weigh almost four pounds! These handsome piggies came from a shelter all the way in Alabama. Their age is estimated between two to three years of age and the rescue thinks they are brothers. They are cuddle boys who love hay. Because of their older age they are marked as special needs since they do have some impaction issues (we aren't talkin teeth). They need a guinea experienced home, or one ready and willing to become one. And a forever home at that! And since guineas live on an average of 5-7 years, forever is quite a while.

Brooklyn and Memphis are also from that Alabama shelter, and they have four pound personalities. They follow you around as far as their cage will let them, and are very vocal. Memphis is "a classic teddy," and Brooklyn is the striking black self American. They are so very bonded that Brooklyn will even wheek if you separate them!

Riley was a personal surrender from someone who could no longer afford the expense, which is such a sad situation for all involved, but it does mean that he is well socialized and a lovely pig. To quote from his bio, "Riley loves to do laps around his cage, he has so much personality he is hard to describe! He is just a happy go lucky type of pig!" Riley is also big on cuddling. For the present he's living with Toby, but they're not too bonded. That means they could be separated on the condition that they're going to homes with other pigs, as far as I can interpret from the bio. Or you could adopt both!

LISTING REMOVED. Richmond, VA: Two guinea pigs, sex not specified (do a pregnancy check) available for adoption. One is one year old, the other is two years old and they are both rust colored. Quote to support a standard AAGP general guideline, that parents should expect to be primary caretakers:

"We have really enjoyed them, but my son has lost interest in them and now I am the real caretaker!" And so the guinea pigs are being rehomed. If you are not willing to take complete care of the pet, then don't procure for your child a living, breathing dependent being, only to rehome it when the inevitable happens.

Guinea pigs come with left over food and cages for very reasonable adoption fee. They are willing to separate the pigs. I hope the adopter isn't, as guinea pigs are highly social creatures, and so are very vulnerable to depression.

These bonded boys are three months old and very cute. They're socialized to people, but I gotta tell ya, Morris is a liar. When he says he's easy to take care of? That is a harmful myth. Guinea pigs are not pocket pets. Let's get that rumor out of the way now. We should call them pocket book pets, because they're about that size and it would dispense with the idea that they're a disposable thirty bucks. You should always have about $200 saved up for vet care.

I tell the truth because I love. But look at Morris' face. He's forgivable for anything.

Come with a Petsmart cage (too small), a pigloo (should have two), water bottle (should have two), food bowl (should have two), toys, edible log (toxic), treats (research on Guinea Lynx), salt thing (not necessary), as well as new bedding (not cedar or pine-(unless kiln-dried)). Very reasonable rehoming fee, pictures available by request.

LISTING REMOVED (with a rescue). Falls Church, VA: This sounds like a very sad story. Bali is two and a half years old, tan, white and brown. She has a mild mite infestation according to the poster, which should be cleared up in a jiff with a course of ivermectin, I would imagine. She is described as a "beautiful, good natured pig." Unfortunately, the heat/ac no longer is in working order at the poster's home, so this is not a healthy place for the pig. As well, the poster is having some issues with distract from her care taking of the pig. She will come with food, water bottles, and reading material.
