Newport News (Norfolk), VA: 1 y.o. female guinea pig being rehomed after only recently being adopted from another Craigslister. Guinea pigs need time to adjust in their new home. "She seems really really scared for some reason she runs when you try to grab her and hold her." This is very typical of guinea pigs. "She will let you pet her if you are easy with her." She doesn't come with a cage, why not get a Cheaper, Better Cage? Read the listing for more details. Marking this girl as special needs, after being moved around so much she deserves a guinea pig experienced home or one willing to learn.

MD-Humane Society of Baltimore County-Many new guinea pigs!

Humane Society of Baltimore County; Reiserstown, MD: LISTING REMOVED Fizzy, LISTING REMOVED Princess, LISTING REMOVED Mystery, Chuckie, and Chocolate and Vanilla!

Fizzy is a small young female pink-eyed-white (PEW).

Princess is a small young female (so cute!).

Mystery is a small young female (she looks like a baby! And maybe even like there might be some texel in her).

Male Guinea Pig is a small young male with a rooster tail!!

Chocolate and Vanilla are medium young females (eight months old) who were given up because of allergies and are "very sweet."

Reese: Does this guinea pig look familiar to any long time readers? I feel like I have featured him or her before. Also, this guinea pig should never be bred because it carries the dangerous roan gene and could create a lethal pup (though this blog is against intentional br33ding of any guinea pig because of the overwhelming homeless population and dangers it poses to the animal).

PLEASE HELP! Scroll down for new pigs

Regular readers will know that I foster for
Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue,
and love doing so because it's an amazing organization.

I want to use this space to ask for some help for the rescue. It's been such a difficult summer for homeless guinea pigs that the rescue is overwhelmed with pigs, and is in desperate need for funds.

At the moment we are unable to take in any additional pigs to the rescue. PLEASE consider donating to Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue to assure the safety and health of guinea pigs in area kill shelters.

As always, consider adopting an MGPR pig. Each pig is spayed/neutered and vet checked. Foster applications are also always welcome!

And as a new development, some of our incredibly talented fosterers are selling lap pads, sleeping bags, and tunnels for guinea pigs, and donating the proceeds to MGPR!

VA-Cave Spring Piggie Rescue-Baby Boy

Cave Spring Piggie Rescue; Roanoke, VA: Simon!

Simon was born at the regional ASPCA on March 2nd, 2008. He is an American cross with silkie type hair. He is very sweet and laid back for a baby. Wow, normally they are such zoomers and nibblers! Sounds like Simon would be a great match for an older male pig who needs a mate. The rescue is listing him as special needs because he is a satin: "He will need yearly x-rays to evaluate bone densities to determine if he will need calcium supplements in the future. It may or may not be a problem for him. But boy, he is so pretty and he does shine."

MD-Luna's House-Five guinea pigs

Luna's House; Abingdon, MD: Payton, Ranger, Kevin, Sam, ADOPTED! Parker!

Payton is an adult female guinea pig (1.5-2 years old), small in size because of malnutrition and neglect early in life. She is gaining some weight in foster care (even as she fights a tough URI) and getting used to the good life. She is a very sweet girl and would love to have an adopter lined up for when she's all better.

Ranger is an adult male guinea pig (3 years old) who is "very sweet and loving." He is undergoing treatment for the very painful condition bumblefoot. I bet Ranger would love an eagerly awaiting adopter too!

Kevin is a cutie-pie small adult male who was rescued from a local shelter.

Sam is a handsome nine month old male guinea pig who will be NEUTERED! He would make a gorgeous husband to a lonely girl you have at home. There are also long term health benefits to adopting a spayed or neutered cavy. Read about them here.

Parker: this adorable boy is 4 to 5 months old, and he wins a FAVORITE PIG AWARD!

MD-Small Angels Rescue-New Pigs!

Small Angels Rescue; Foster homes in Northern MD: Nanette and Sabella, ADOPTED! Pascal and Raoul, ADOPTED! Makayla and Zoe, Anekka and Mariel!

UPDATE:

*NEW* Nanette and Sabella are an absolutely gorgeous mother and daughter pair who were recently returned to the rescue due to their former adopter's allergies. They're both very "sweet and friendly" girls, and Nanette, the smaller of the two, has grown since the photo was taken. Sabella is 2 y.o. and Nanette is 11 months old. "Nanette is very agile (for a piggy!) and likes to hop up and sit on top of her house."

*NEW* Pascal and Raoul are 2 month old brothers who were born in the rescue on May 5th. Raoul is on the right and Pascal is on the left in their photo. They were born to a mother from a sad case; she had been living outside on a farm in a "small overcrowded cage" and she was already close to delivery. Soon after being rescued she gave birth to five pigs, including these two. They love popcorning and playing hide and seek/chase/tag in the hay in their cage! With time they will calm down and love lap time as much as floor time.

Makayla and Zoe are just the most gorgeous pair of bonded adult (2 y.o.) female guineas. Makayla is that ball of teddy fuzz on the right, and Zoe is the pretty girl on the left. Zoe is a bit scared of being picked up, but does enjoy lap time. They came to the rescue from the local animal shelter; their children were no longer taking care of them and so they were surrendered. They love their daily veggies and romping around in their hay.

Anneka and Mariel are bonded sisters who have lived together since they were abandoned when young. They've now only been surrendered to the rescue because of their care-giver's bad allergies. How sad for everyone involved. Annika is the lovely girl on the left. They both have beautiful dark eyes and are "sweet and cuddly." They love their veggies, occasional fruits, and now really need a family "who will treat them gently and love them forever."

Fairfax City, VA: 2.5 y.o. lovable male guinea pig (Ron) being rehomed due to an aggressive dog. Comes with cage and supplies.

Hampton, VA: Poster purchased guinea pigs from pet store two months ago and is now moving and is rehoming pigs. They come with a too small cage, pigloos, a water bottle, food dish, chew toy, hay, food, leftover bedding, and vitamin C drops which should NOT go in the water--they aren't water soluble, meaning they stop working after 5 minutes and just make the water taste bad. GUINEA PIG LESSON: Guinea pigs from petstores frequently suffer from mites, URIs, are missexed, and may be pregnant. These are listed as females, but double checking the sex is a good idea.

South Riding Chantilly, VA: Two 2 y.o. male guinea pigs being rehomed due to life style change. "Quite animated...playful," vocal, used to children (but guinea pigs should always have parents as the primary care givers, and prepared to be the sole caregivers). Come with their food, cage, pigloo, "snuggle pouch," hutch and bedding available at time.

GUINEA PIG LESSON: Guinea Pig is being housed on TOXIC CEDAR BEDDING which is a huge no-no. If you're in the area and want to make a difference, why not drop off one of the approved beddings from this list: Bedding? Underfunded shelters often have to make due with what they're donated, and that's where you can help!
