DC-DC Guinea Pigs-two boars

LISTING REMOVED Edmund and Leo are two wonderful boys, as I have been told by multiple people who have been lucky enough to meet them. They are fostered by the fabulous woman who runs DC Guinea Pigs. These boys are bonded and two and a half years old (est). They've been in foster care for a bit, so they should be quite adjusted to human interaction. I really like their listing, so I'm going to post a chunk: Edmund was named for Sir Edmund Hillary, the mountain climber, due to his love of climbing. Most guinea pigs prefer hiding in boxes to climbing on top of them, but both Edmund and Leo are fond of climbing onto the wooden box in their cage and surveying the world from on high. They are also very fond of a variety of vegetables, including parsley, bell peppers, romaine lettuce, and carrots. If you would like to adopt Edmund and Leo, please send e-mail to dcguineapigs@yahoo.com.

I think they look like handsome bears protecting a cave, or something. They are gorgeous! Adopt them and your other guinea pig friends will be jealous of their beautiful markings and climbing skills. And these sweet boys will have a forever home!

MD/DC-today's local Craigslist

To be clear, I don't think giving away guinea pigs on Craig's List is an appropriate, safe goodbye for a guinea pig. Like the petstore purchase, it generally results in immediate gratification-you post, the pig is picked up, then it's out of sight out of mind. Or, often, out of sight, into a lab. Frustratingly, the petstore purchase/Craiglist post is a frequently paired duo. I don't think a person should get a guinea pig if:

*he is about to move and can't bring the guinea pig with him. Wait and adopt.
*she knows her landlord won't let her have pets but she figures it will be okay.
*he doesn't have the money for proper supplies, a cavy cage, a constant hay and trice daily veggie diet.
*she doesn't have the money for potentially hundreds of dollars worth of vet bills.
*he is going to keep the guinea pig outside or with a rabbit or by his or herself.
*she only thinks baby guinea pigs are cute.
*he wants to br33d them.
***she wants to buy a guinea pig, not taking in to account the thousands of homeless guinea pigs who will be euthanized if someone doesn't help them***

So now on to the guinea pigs people are giving up. Don't let their owner's bad decision making be taken out on the guinea pigs-see if you can help before, at best, they become sn@ke food.

LISTING REMOVED. Two sows, Silver Spring, MD are being offered for fr33, along with their cage and accessories.
"Young, friendly, healthy, good with kids." Too bad people aren't good to them.

LISTING EXPIRED. Eight m.o. boar, Columbia, MD is being offered for a very reasonable adoption fee, which is responsible. It would have been better if their owner had thought before getting a puppy just two months after getting the guinea pig. Now the guinea pig has to be rehomed. He has medium length orange, chocolate and white hair. He is very sweet, friendly, and loves to be held. He comes with a a too-small cage and a bunch of other supplies.

VA-Fairfax County Animal Services

UPDATE

WITH A RESCUE! This blur at Fairfax County Animal Services, listed on PetHarbor as ID#A023821, which I posted earlier:

is really this adorable cutie, Abby!

Wow, it's like the difference between a driver's license photo and a glamour shot. She is so adorable! What a poor baby, I hope that bad photo didn't cut in to her time...

VA-Hampton Roads Area-Six Babies

Six babies as a result of an unplanned pregnancy will be available Nov. 5th. They're only a day old, but poster says there are boys and girls; I would imagine that's a (logical) guess. They're crested abbies, and multi-orange, white, and brown. They will be available Nov. 5th with a small adoption fee. If you decided to adopt these guineas, and have never had babies before, read up at GuineaLynx on their care. They're cute, but they're work!

MD-Small Angels Rescue News/New Pigs

Small Angels has two new boars! They are such handsome fellows. But before I post them, in order to build suspense, I'm going to repost a notice they have on their site about hamsters, not sure if it's current:

Looking for a hamster? Don't go to the pet store! Small Angels recently took in a large group of hamsters from a kill shelter. Three of the hamsters gave birth, for a total of 17 babies. We also have about 30 dwarf hamsters looking for homes---singles, pairs, trios, and quartets. The adoption fee is $5 per hamster. Syrian hamsters must be adopted to a separate cage or home, whereas we will not split up bonded dwarf hamsters (who must be adopted in at least pairs). If you can help by adopting hamsters, fostering them, or donating supplies like Carefresh or food, please contact Angela at hamsters@smallangelsrescue.org.

On to the boars!

LISTING REMOVED. (paired with another pig) Benedict is one of those handsome black and white fellows I so love. He won't betray your heart! He is people friendly, cuddly, and energetic. He's just under two and is looking for a piggie pal. That's a good age; he's past the grumpy boar adolescence. He's neutered, so he can meet your pretty guinea lady!

ADOPTED! Tobias is a young guy with a lot of personality in his photo. He is six months old and a bundle of energy. He loves racing around his cage, and is looking for a fellow guinea to join him.

MD-Montgomery County Humane Society sows and boar

Montgomery County Humane Society has a four month old girl in its shelter. Her name is Laurie and she's a tricolor. No picture yet (I'll update if they post one), but I bet she's a cutie. It seems like she just got to the shelter today--let's make sure she doesn't have to spend much time there. (Even though MCHS is a great shelter, and was a former home of six of my childhood cats, but forever homes are always nicer).

LISTING REMOVED. Laurie is on PetHarbor and her ID is #A312279.

ETA:

On PetHarbor under "I lost my pet," it appears MCHS has two additional guineas, also without pictures.

LISTING REMOVED. Joni is a two year old male, unaltered, brown and white. He's been in the shelter since yesterday. His ID is
#A312251

LISTING REMOVED. Lovey
is of unknown age and is a black and white sow. B&W cavies are my favorite, for some reason. I never fail to fall in love with them. Her ID is #A312276.

* AAGP recommends quarantining any new guinea pigs
for 2-3 weeks and confirming the sex yourself.
Many sad accidents or "accidents" can be avoided this way. *
