MD-Craigslist-two sows

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to ensure it matches the name he or she gives *

POST REMOVED. Reisterstown, MD
: two bonded smooth hair guinea pigs being dumped, small adoption fee. Poster's daughters don't bother with them any more. Small adoption fee includes two cages, water bottles, bedding, food, food bowls, hay, and "huge ball." If that means exercise or hay ball, neither one of these are appropriate for guinea pigs. They're familiar with people.

This post is so typical of what happens to purchased guinea pigs it makes me really, really sad.

VA-Loudoun County Animal Shelter

Woah, lots of guinea pigs at Lououn County Animal Shelter! This shelter offers lots of programs for area residents, and has won multiple awards for its level of animal care. It is, however, a shelter which euthanizes, sadly like many of the shelters I post. Please help out your local animal shelter or rescue by adopting or fostering.

*Don't br33d or buy while shelter animals die*

LISTING REMOVED. Max is a gorgeous boar who is just under a year and a half old. He was given up to the shelter, which is so sad to me. He's a cute, fun, and friendly boy looking for a forever home.

LISTING REMOVED.
Pumpkin and Peach are a remarkably lovely pair of sows. They're one year old sisters who are super bonded. The first guinea pigs I adopted were a pair of sisters, and it made learning about guinea pigs so much easier -- I didn't have to cope with bonding at the same time I learned it's normal for guinea pigs to eat their own poop.

LISTING REMOVED. Oreo is a beautiful abby girl, just one year old. She too was given up at the shelter--she can't have had much time at what she thought was her forever home before being dumped at the shelter. She's a friendly and fun girl looking for the real thing this time.

All photographs taken by Haley Detrich. This is another great way to help out a shelter. Like taking pictures? Take animals' adoption photos pro bono.

MD-Luna's House, bonded boars

ADOPTED! Hooray, Danny and Marty have photos and a bio! I wrote about these guys in a Luna's House post earlier today. They are sweet bonded boys. Danny is the white and black one, and Marty is the tan boy. He has long hair here and there. The two are young boys, just over a year old, and they came from a Virginia shelter. They are thriving in their foster home, but they're looking forward to the home they'll have forever -- yours?

* AAGP recommends quarantining any new guinea pigs
for 2-3 weeks and confirming the sex yourself.
Many sad accidents or "accidents" can be avoided this way. *
