VA-Cave Spring Piggie Rescue-new guineas

ADOPTED! Cave Spring Piggie Rescue has four new pigs. This first guy is named Fudge, and I genuinely think he is one of the most handsome pigs I have ever seen. I would adopt this guy in a heartbeat if we had boar space. He is one year old and a bit timid-his ears are also a bit chewed. They say he needs a special adopter who can help him open up. Well that special adopter needs to send me lots of pictures!

ADOPTED! Here is the very pretty Patty. She's an American Torti. She's young, very outgoing, vocal, and active (says her listing). She's social in her cage but hard to catch, and needs a patient adopter. In my experience guineas calm down as they get older, but to be honest this baby sounds like fun!

ADOPTED! Here is darling Maggie. I think she looks so sweet - Cave Spring Piggies has an exceptionally adorable group right now! She is a silky mix, very sweet, social and gentle. She is spayed if you've got a lonely boar looking for more. Maggie is also easy to handle-I wish my guinea pigs were!

This is the elusive Sprinkle, who I posted about earlier without a photo. He is a super social one year old who came from a shelter. His listing says that he loves floortime and seems happy where ever he is. The poor guy has some pieces of his ear missing, signs of a sad past. They recommend an experienced guinea person for this boy because of his strong personality.

MD-Luna's House Guineas

Luna's House is a rescue that works with small animals, including cats, through a network of foster homes. They hope to one day have their own facility. They work with other local groups and animal shelters, and because of their small size they can't take in direct surrenders. They have so many amazing animals, including the two below guineas!

ADOPTED! Elvis is such a great looking guy. He has no information, but I know a while ago he was on a shelter's website. My slogan: some of the best are the ones with crests!

ADOPTED! Riddick is, in my opinion, much cuter than possible namesake Vin Diesel. He is friendly, charismatic, and loves both pigs and people! He's under two years old. I'm not sure that he actually has ruby colored eyes-healthy dark colored guinea pig eyes show red in a bright light. That doesn't mean that the other guineas aren't healthy, it just might have to do with the angle, or the type of flash. Or he might have red eyes-the better to see veggies with!

MD/DC/VA-THE BEST GUINEA PIG IN THE WORLD

UPDATE: Gypsy was too skinny for her spay! She won't be available for adoption for another month or two. Sorry if you fell in love!

I am about to share a very special guinea pig with you. Her name is Gypsy. She lives in my spare bedroom! I am fostering her and her adorable daughter for Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue. She has been getting lots of lovin' for the last month, so she needs a very special forever home. She was dropped off in a box with five other guinea pigs at a kill-shelter. They posted an ad on Petfinder and a co-MGPR member gave them a call and picked 'em up-Gypsy, Hank, Iggy, and Gypsy's three children: Pongo, Rollo, and Captain. Gypsy and her babies stayed with me, co-MGPR member took the big boys. And after a few weeks the boys, Captain (pictured on the side bar) and Pongo, moved on to live with the director.

Gypsy was the most amazing mother ever. She was at her kids' beck and call. She's only nine months old, and a very petite lady-it's a miracle she survived the pregnancy. She needs some time to be an independent adult now! She is a scrappy little girl who loves floor time more than lap time, but she's learning to trust and love people. It seems like she loves being photographed. She's also a very aggressive pig, so she would do well paired with a "B type" piggie. Read more about her here. She gets spayed tomorrow-wish our girl luck!

MD-Little Wonders Animal Rescue

Little Wonders Animal Rescue is a great Maryland Rescue that saves smaller animals from euthanization. They have also been licensed as Wildlife Rehabilators. They have tons of guinea pigs, so I'm going to feature them over a series of posts.

Davy and Nick are brothers who are less than a year old. They are friendly and bonded and oh-so-cute!

ADOPTED! Carl is one of those remarkable guineas who looks one color on one side, and another color on the other. Check out his listing to see his other half! He's friendly and loves attention. I think he looks like a cute abby stuffed animal.

Tiny isn't. He is a great big lovable lug of a guy. He is eight months old, and very cute and sweet.

Mo is a cutie. He looks like a guinea who is meant to be held to the chest and given lots of kisses. He came from a shelter and is a little bit shy, but some shelters can do that to a piggie. He'll probably warm right up in a forever home.

VA-Loudoun County Animal Shelter-3 sows

LISTING REMOVED. Hi guinea loving folks; I wasn't sure about putting these girls up because their photo was taken off of Petfinder. It stayed on the Animal Shelter's website but I thought it might be because they hadn't gotten around to taking down the picture (no knock, mainly volunteer organizations that love animals can't do everything as quickly as paid missile making factories). Still, recently they updated their site and these three girls remained, so, here are the cuties:

Their names are Snuggles, Cali, and Fudge, and they are 2 years old, 1 year old, and 1 year old. They are bonded and people friendly. I think the one in the middle is especially beautiful-her markings are so unique. Just a heads up-if you do go to adopt these guinea pigs, or any guinea pig housed on newspaper, be aware they're going to smell. Newspaper is not absorbent, and so animals housed on it will smell like urine-not pleasant for you or them. If you take them home to a bath (all sorts of guidelines for this too) and some Carefresh or fleece, you'll be set!

VA-URGENT! TWO SOWS MUST BE REHOMED ASAP!

ADOPTED! This is a very difficult situation for all involved. The family has been given an unexpected overseas transfer to a post which does not allow pets. They found a home for Squeaker and Brownie with a responsible friend, but it fell through. Now the guinea pigs have to find a good home by OCTOBER 31st. I'm sure everyone has read about the dangers of Halloween for pets-well, now it applies to these two beautiful girls as well. Squeaker is on the right-she is the gorgeous and sweet gray and white abby. Brownie on the left is the lovely brown and white silky American. They are almost one year old and bonded. They are very people friendly, love to be held and snuggle, and are very active. All of their cages and supplies are included with the adoption fee. Please, can you help these darling girls?

VA-Fairfax County Animal Services, Sows, New Pictures

Fairfax County Animal Services has, among other guinea pigs, two sows who hadn't gotten a fair shake because of their pictures. Well, lovely photos of these lovely girls have appeared on PetHarbor.

WITH A RESCUE! Judy Garland's ID on Petharbor is #A024268. What a beauty!

WITH A RESCUE! Liza Minelli's PetHarbor ID is #A024269. I can picture IRLiza making that face.

MD-Animal Rescue of Maryland

Animal Rescue of Maryland is a rescue organization that was originally begun to save homeless dogs, but now seems to have a few gorgeous guineas on their hands.

Amy, Beth, Meg and J
are four beautiful abbys who have to be adopted in pairs. How could you chose? They are very bonded and quite amazing looking. I think the tricolor guinea on the right even has a guinea tail-if that's the case, these can grow out-she'll be even more striking. They're estimated to be a year and a half old. The rescue adopts to people in the MD/DC/VA metropolitan area.

This listing makes it seem like Animal Rescue of Maryland has more long haired girls, but I wonder if it's a proto-listing for the one above. Contact the rescue for more information (and then tell me!).
