NY-EUTHANIZATION ALERT-DESPERATE CALL FOR HELP

GUINEA PIGS SAFE AND ALWAYS WERE! READ UPDATE here.

FIVE DAYS until fifteen guinea pigs in upstate New York are euthanized. Now that a college br33ding program has ended, the pigs are going to be killed on Wednesday, the twelfth of December.

Any help is desperately needed. Foster homes, adopters, financial or material donations, donations of time, transporting a pig to a safe home, etc.

All fifteen of these Pink Eyed Whites (PEW)s, though lab animals, have been handled daily and are friendly.

The school in question is SUNY Delhi, a small college in the Catskills Mountains of New York. It's website is here: http://www.delhi.edu.

For any questions or offers of help, please either leave a comment, email me at Adoptaguineapig @ gmail.com (remove spaces), or visit this thread on Guinea Lynx: here.

PLEASE HELP KEEP THESE DEFENSELESS,
INNOCENT ANIMALS FROM BEING KILLED!

VA-Event-Frederick County Animal Shelter

So this blog does not endorse or affiliate with any religion(s), but I did want to share an event that sounded neat with you all. Please don't think that by doing so I wish to encourage worshiping anything other than animal safety.

Frederick County Animal Shelter
is having a "Christmas at the Shelter" this Saturday, from 11 AM to 2 PM. A ceremony will be held to bless the animals, and you are encouraged to bring your own (I don't think this would be a guinea pig's scene though, or an animal with a vulnerable immune system).

To quote from their website:

COME SEE THE NEW FACILITY, ENJOY REFRESHMENTS,
VISIT WITH AND POSSIBLY ADOPT AN ANIMAL.

FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO BRING GIFTS FOR THE SHELTER ANIMALS, THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WOULD BE APPRECIATED:

CANNED DOG AND CAT FOOD, BIRD FOOD (COCKATIEL, ETC.), DISPOSABLE CAT TOYS, DOG TOYS, SOLID RAW HIDE CHEWS, BLANKETS, TOWELS, CLEAN CARPET (CUT INTO 12 INCH SQUARES), SHOE BOXES, PINE SOL, CLOROX AND PAPER TOWELS.

Have fun if you go, and tell us about it in the comment section!

MD/VA/DC-MGPR-new pigs!

MGPR, the organization for which I foster, has a bunch of new guinea pigs available for adoption. Exciting day! MGPR spays and neuters all their guinea pigs unless it's not medically advisable. There are even more guinea pigs who will be available for adoption that aren't on their site, so keep checking back.

ADOPTED! Lucky is a beautiful Abby boy who is one year old. He is very friendly with both people and pigs. Lucky is looking for a sow-friend to spend the rest of his life with, and he cannot be adopted as a single pig.

ADOPTED! Dana (first pictured) is a beautiful nine month old girl, and is sisters with ADOPTED! Crystal. The girls can be adopted separately so long as they won't be single pigs, or they can be adopted together. Crystal is a gorgeous nine month old abby girl.

ADOPTED! Tootsie has actually previously been featured on this blog, in this post. I loved her then and I love her now! She is ten months old and somewhat shy, but absolutely loves other guinea pigs. She must be adopted either with another guinea pig, or to a home that has a guinea pig waiting for her.

ADOPTED! Superfudge and Squeaky are a handsome boy/girl pair who met and fell in love in a foster home. Squeaky is a friendly sweetheart who will greet you at the entrance of the cage. They are a wonderful pair waiting for wonderful adopters.

ADOPTED! Frank is a cute boy, eleven months old, who is looking for a girl-friend too. He is very personable with pigs and people--sounds perfect!

ADOPTED! Layla is such a sweet girl, with a little white chin. She is two years old and laid back. She loves other pigs, and wants to be adopted to a home with other guineas.

And don't forget MGPR's pig of the month-ADOPTED! Possum! This cute boy is ready and waiting for a home. At eleven months he's past the prickly adolescence but still full of young boar-ish energy. He's healthy, full of energy, and loves other pigs. He needs to go to a home where he'll have pig and people pals.

DC-GPAN-Boar

I can't stay away.

Washington, D.C.: A listing on Guinea Pig Adoption Network for a one year old boar named Notorious P.I.G. (love it). This white, light brown, and dark brown guy needs a new home--the poster is going abroad and his parents won't keep him while he's gone. Adopt this piggie and get him a (spayed) broad for company!

MD-Craigslist-Three Guinea Pigs

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure
it matches the name he or she gives *

LISTING REMOVED. Essex, MD: Ugh, this ad is gross. Three "very loving great pets" need to go ASAP because the person is moving. He encourages them as gifts. No no no, not a good idea. Think unknown allergies, financial or space constrictions, other animals, it's just a bad idea all around. I imagine they'd be bonded, but the poster says you can take one, two, or three.

VA-Craigslist-Two young boars

* If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to
ensure
it matches the name he or she gives *

LISTING REMOVED. Charlottesville, VA: Two boars need a new home because the poster's daughter is allergic to them, as well as a bit rough. The guinea pigs are large, and very loving and tame. They love to be petted and held. They are not yet a year old. One is tan with ruby colored eyes, the other is chocolate colored. Pictures available by request. A small adoption fee includes cage, water bottle, food, etc. These seem like good people, if it's possible to sense such a thing.

MD-Luna's House-Two new piggies

Luna's House has new pigs! Happy day! Luna's House is a great rescue. if you aren't familiar with them, please browse the blog or check out their site, because I want to get straight to their cuties!

ADOPTED! Camille is a small young sow who is very pretty, even beyond her uber-feminine background. She looks like a real lady. If you would like to contribute to Camille getting the best care possible, but can't adopt her yourself, there is always the option of sponsoring her!

ADOPTED! Reese is one of the neatest looking guinea pigs I've ever seen in my life. She is another young female sow. Luna's House has an exceptionally cute class of guinea pigs this month! Like Camille, if you are unable to adopt Reese but still want to help in her care, there is always the option of sponsoring her.

POST EXPIRED. Woodbridge, VA: Worrisome ad without much information. The boar is a good pet to have, the ad reads, but the poster can no longer afford him. Look at this cute face:

MD-Guinea Pig Home-Two boars

LISTING REMOVED. Two Charm City boars are being advertised for rehoming on Guinea Pig Home. Lefty and Early are three to four years old, tame, friendly and social. They love veggies, attention and lap time. They can come with a C&C cage on the cheap. Can be adopted separately. Poster says that two males cannot get along, please disregard this. There are various scenarios that make it more and less likely for two or more males to bond, including the variable of the guineas' personalities. These two may just have not been compatible, but that doesn't mean one of them wouldn't be compatible with your boar at home.

VA-Animal Welfare League of Washington-Sow

WITH A RESCUE! Animal Welfare League of Arlington has an oh, so, cute girly pig. I adore her. I am not sure if the restraint I am showing by my posting her, rather than adopting her without the space is coming across right now. I love this girl. Two years old and cute as can be, here's Carrie:

POST DELETED. Perryhall (near Baltimore), MD: Senior intact male looking for a new home. I don't understand how someone could rehome an animal in their possible last years of life, but here we are. This is one of those times where I would make a comparison to people, but we rehome our senior parents too. Maybe we're not doing too great as a culture all around. When 85 year old grandmas are advertised on CL as good with kids, I believe the other shoe will have officially dropped. He's a quiet guy who has been through a bladder stone, but a modified diet has helped him out. I think his twilight years might finally be time for a mate (spayed, if female, of course). Special brownie points for rescuing this one.

LISTING REMOVED. Laurel, MD: An ad where everything goes wrong. Guinea pigs should never, ever, ever be kept in tanks. Not even in a rescue short term. This is very detrimental for them. The "Rollin' in the Hay" ball pictured has also almost cost guinea pigs their lives when they get stuck. Not to forget that it's too much work for the guinea pigs to get the hay. Bear is an adult pig with a smooth white, orange (and it looks some brown) coat. He's a sweet shy boy who is not currently being held by his current owner. He is only getting fresh food four times a week. Comes with some supplies, but *not* the cage. Worrisome. First off, it's a tank, second off, what's going to go in it next?

POST DELETED. Fairfax, VA: This guy looks like a handful. In that he looks like that lovable pudgy guinea type, that's either a result of lack of exercising or pudgy genes. Snickers is two years old, very sweet and friendly, a cuddler who's used to kids. Sounds perfect! Comes with some basic supplies. Being rehomed due to excessive travel.
