Have-A-Heart helped enormously with a very sad cruelty case. They rescued 140 guinea pigs from a Pennsylvania barn, where the guinea pigs were being raised for food. They lived in deplorable conditions, surrounded by maggots and dead guinea pigs. This was in 2006, but Have-A-Heart is still feeling the ramifications. The first two listings I'm linking two are survivors of this horrible situation.
ADOPTED! The first group of guineas from the cruelty case is Penelope, Paige, and Lydon. Lydon is Paige's daughter. They're currently in a foster home in Frostburg, MD. They are used to being around dogs and cats. They have been with the rescue for over a year, which is sad for the piggies, but does mean they are used to interacting with people.
IN NEW JERSEY. FOSTER HOME NEEDED. The other group from the cruelty case is Slyvia and Wheels, and Whippet and Whiskers. They are mother/daughter pairs, and must be adopted in pairs. They have also been in the rescue for over a year, and are used to dogs and cats.
ADOPTED! I love this photo of Haley and Cindy. They were given up because the kids lost interest in them. As I wrote before, if you're going to get your kid something, get them a bike. The bike doesn't get lonely all by itself in the garage. They're in Shepardstown, MD. They're older guineas (just 3 1/2) which means they'll have a harder time getting adopted. I find an older guinea much more open to laptime and being pet. Please don't pass them over.
